If you are considering attending college in Florida; then there are a few student aid options that you should be aware of. State grants are a form of tuition aid that is given to students for no other reason than that they are attending a school in the state. This means that if you are a citizen of Florida; you could be eligible for very easy scholarships that will help pay for your tuition.

If you want to see what you are eligible for, you can either apply for and fill out your FAFSA or go to the Florida Student Scholarship Grant Program website to check out your options.

Access to Better Learning and Grant Program

This is a need based aid program that is given to students who have been residents of Florida for a minimum of 2 years. Students must also have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and have been accepted into a college. The amount awarded is need based and your financial advisor will most likely end up deciding the actual amount. The tuition given can be up to full tuition but as low as only a few hundred dollars. Students must enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours of study in order to qualify.

First Generation Matching Grant Program

This grant program is for students who’s parent have not earned degrees. Students must be legal residents of the State of Florida, be studying for their first degree and have and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher. The degree also requires that students qualify for Federal aid through the FAFSA. The degree is need based and will cover up to full tuition depending upon the students resources and other aid awards.

Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program

The Bright Futures scholarship program is comprised of three individual scholarship opportunities and aims to provide high school students with college assurance. The program pays for only one year of college, however; students may choose which year. Students are required to apply for this grant before completing high school, otherwise they are not eligible. Applicants should also submit their high school grades, maintain a GPA of 2.7 or higher and be citizens of Florida for a minimum of 2 years.

William L. Boyd, IV, Florida Resident Access Grant Program

This grant is intended to aid students who are attending private, non-profit colleges in Florida. The scholarship requires that students be citizens of Florida and must not owe the government of Florida any money. The grant awards an annual amount of $2,145; this is per year that the student studies at the school, if the student maintains a GPA of 2.7 or higher.

Florida Student Assistance Grant Program

This grant program is available for undergraduate students with substantial financial need. Students should be residents of Florida and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. The minimum award for the 2012-2013 period is $200 and the maximum is $2,413.

It’s the time of year to start your student aid applications and if you live in the State of Delaware you should consider a few of these state only grants that you can apply for. The tiny, tax-free state is not only good for shopping in, but if you are a citizen, for study as well. While there aren’t very many schools you can attend in Delaware, the financial benefits are well worth it. Most of the Delaware State Aid opportunities available can be applied for through the FAFSA form.

Deadlines & Restrictions

Remember, the deadline for state applied aid this year is April 15th! If you send your application in after that, you will not receive aid and must re-apply the following year.

Several of the grants offered by the state of Delaware require that you complete a common Merit application first. This application is relatively easy but will require you to set up an account with the Delaware Higher Education Office so if you don’t have your SSN number memorized, have the card handy.

Scholarship Incentive Program

For this grant you must have an unweighted grade of a minimum of 2.5. You must also be a legal U.S. citizen and resident of Delaware. The award amount is $1,000 per year to graduate students and $500-$1000 per year for undergraduates. The program is need based.

Educational Benefits for Children of Deceased Benefits & Others

This grant is only applicable if you have parents who have served in the military. You must be between the ages of 16 and 24 to qualify and your parent must have been a citizen of Delaware at time of death. The grant offers up to full tuition in a Delaware school but is need based.

Governors Education Grant for Working Adults

This grant requires that you be a citizen of Delaware, be 18 or older and have possession of a GED or Diploma. The grant pays up to $2,000 per year and is need based for adults who have a job and are attending college. The focus of this grant is to allow students to study without losing their jobs.

Governors Education Grant for Unemployed Adults

This grant is for adults 18 years or older who do not have a job. The idea behind the grant is to help educate adults so that they can find a place in the workforce. Maximum grant payout is $2,000 per year.

Scholarships

There are four scholarships offered by the State of Delaware. The B. Bradford Barnes Memorial Scholarship which offers up to full tuition. (You must complete an essay and maintain a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher.) The Charles L. Hebner Memorial Scholarship which offers up to full tuition and the Herman M. Holloway Scholarship with full tuition coverage. The Diamond State Scholarship offers up to $1,500 per year but is slightly more accessible as it awards money to 50 applicants per year.

Incentive Programs

Incentive programs are designed to be an incentive for you to study a particular program. Usually these programs are there because there is a high demand for that specific type of study. A few of the incentive programs offered by Delaware state include the Delaware Nursing Incentive program which offers up to tuition provided you work in a state hospital for a minimum of one year after graduation and the Christa McAuliffe Teacher Incentive Program with similar awards. There are a lot of incentive programs offered by Delaware including for teachers, pathologists, optemetry and more.

Did you know that just being a citizen or resident of Connecticut qualifies you for student aid? In fact it does! Connecticut offers several grants to students (even those enrolled at an online college), loans, grants and scholarships.

Connecticut offers several different types of state student aid and here are a few of the specific offers they make to residents of the state. However, there are some opportunities available to students who study at specific schools or who have disabilities or a minority, these are not listed here because they do not apply to the majority of students looking for a grant. Also, in order to qualify for most of these grants, you should submit your FAFSA.

Connecticut Aid for Public College Students

The Connecticut Aid for Public College Students Grant is designed for residents of the state who have lived in Connecticut for 2 years or more and who are attending a public college in Connecticut. Students eligible for the grant should have applied to and received federal student aid and the Connecticut Aid grant will cover any unmet need from the student. Students should also consider contacting the financial aid office in order to apply for this grant.

Independent College Student Grant Program

The Independent College Student Grant Program is aimed towards residents of Connecticut who are attending an independent or private school or college. Students should have resided in Connecticut for a minimum of 2 years and should apply for both FAFSA and have contacted your financial aid office. The grant offers up to $8,166 per year per student and is given on a need basis.

Minority Teacher Incentive Program

The Minority Teachers Incentive program is aimed at students who are studying for at degree with the intent to teach and who are studying a Math, Science teacher preparation class or minority students enrolled in a teacher preparation class. The grant offers up to $5,000 per year and up to $2,500 per year loan reimbursement during the first four years of teaching.

If you are considering attending college in Colorado than you need information on Colorado student aid! First, state student aid is a grant, easy payback loan or scholarship given to students who reside in or are citizens of the state where they wish to study. In most cases, receiving this type of scholarship will require a proof of residency (such as address and length of residency) and very little else unless the scholarship is based towards a minority or special studies group. Here are a few student aid options in the state of Colorado.

Need Based Awards

Colorado holds need based tuition programs that are similar to the federal Pell grant. These include the Colorado Student Grant and the Colorado Graduate Grant. Students must be legal residents of the state in order to apply and will be asked to provide verifying documentation. The Colorado Student grant is typically given in the amount of $1,200 and the Graduate grant is typically $2,200. Both of these grants can be used with the Federal Pell Grant and Federal Supplementary Grant. Students may apply through their FAFSA form.

Work-Study Programs

Work study programs in California include part time employment programs from colleges that are state funded and designed to help students with the money they need to get through college without affecting their study time. This type of program is great even if you have full tuition coverage because generally you will get $10-$15 per hour and you will be able to spend this money however you like. If you are interested in a program of this type, try contacting your college representative and asking about opportunities at your school.

Dependent Tuition Assistance Program

The Colorado Dependents Tuition Assistance program offers student aid to students with dependents such as children or family members who are incapable of taking care of themselves. This is a need based aid which means the final value can greatly vary, however; in most cases it can be quite substantial.

National Guard Tuition Program

The National Guard Tuition program is available for students who are or who have been members of the National Guard. This tuition program will cover up to the entire amount of tuition which means that if you have applied for this Grant than you shouldn’t have to worry about your tuition at all!

Institution Grants & Scholarships

Institute scholarships and grants are those state aid grants that are given to students of a state by the institution they are attending. Usually this type of grant is designed not only to allow needy students to attend college but also to encourage students to attend college in their home state and therefore to support the college giving the grant. In most cases, this type of grant will be need based and can range anywhere from $500 to a few thousand dollars!

Private Foundation Grants for Exceptional & Minority Students

Various private foundations including individuals and associates for minority students provide grants and scholarships to students who are either of a minority (ethnical or disability) or who are exceptionally brilliant or talented. In most cases, any exceptional grant will require that you have a GPA of 3.75 and higher!

If you are a student or would like to be a student in California than you are in luck! There are many state student aid and scholarships and grants that give aid to students in California for no other reason than that they are studying in California.

Location Grants

A location grant is a type of aid that is given for no other reason than that you are in a specific area. Location grants in California vary from specific grants by counties to state grants that offer up to $500 per year to students attending a local school. This can be a great help to any students who wish to study but don’t have the money or cannot get quite enough money from a Federal Grant.

Education Grants

An education grant is a grant that is aimed specifically towards a student who is studying a specific class that will benefit either society, the givers of the grant or etc. Options for this type of grant include TEACH grants and etc. This type of grant can range from a small help such as a few hundred dollars to covering the full cost of tuition!

Minority Grants

A minority grant is any type of grant that is given to a minority student. This can include minority by race, by disability and much more. Grants of this type generally range from a few hundred per year to several thousand!

Ability Grants

This type of grant is generally given because a student has exceptional ability in one field or another. Common causes for this type of grant include good grades, athletic ability or etc. In order to receive a scholarship for good grades you should expect to keep high grades of 2.7 gpa or higher.

No matter what type of state student aid you are looking for you can find it and apply for it at the California Student Aid Commission or CSAC

As a citizen of Arkansas, you would find it most convenient to go to college in Arkansas, right? Because most states like to promote the welfare of their citizens and encourage them to study in their home state, state student aid is available for citizens of a state of at least two years. Arkansas is no different and will often provide some student aid purely on the basis that a student is from Arkansas! Here are a few of the different Arkansas State grants you can earn.

Governors Scholarship Program

The Governors Scholarship Program offers up to $4,000 per year to Arkansas students who are graduating high school. This scholarship is given based on academic achievement, leadership and test scores. An additional, Governors Distinguished Scholarship Program offers up to $10,000 per year to those students who receive the Governors Scholarship Program and then go on to achieve a 32ACT score, 1,410 SAT score and a minimum of 3.50 grade point average!

Higher Education Opportunities Grant

Also known as the Go! Grant, this grant offers up to $1,000 per year to full time college students and $500 per year to part time students. The only requirements are that the students must be residents of Arkansas for a minimum of 12 months and must have scholastic monetary need.

Ellen Carpenter HBCU Scholarship

The Ellen Carpenter HBCU scholarship is available to Arkansas students attending the Arkansas Baptist College, Phillander Smith College or the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. The amount awarded is between $1,000 and $5,000 per year depending upon budget and student need.

Arkansas Health Education Grant

The Aransas Health Education grant provides need based aid, loan forgiveness and financial assistance to Arkansas students studying under most fields of medicine. The amount of the grant tends to differ by student need; however, in some cases it can cover a large amount of the tuition fee.

Academic Scholarship Challenge

The Academic Scholarship Challenge is available to any and all Arkansas students no matter if they have just graduated high school or are pursuing their Master degree. The aid is need based and will differ per student.

Second Effort Scholarship

The Second Effort Scholarship is designed to aid students with GED’s who are attending higher education. This grant offers up to $1,000 per college year to each student who ranked among the top ten GED scores for their graduating year.

Teacher Opportunity Program

The Teacher Opportunity Program is designed to give aid to teachers who are currently teaching and wish to go back to school to further their learning. This aid is for Arkansas teachers only and covers up to $3,000 or 6 credit hours tuition fee (whichever comes first). This grant only covers out of pocket expenses: this means if it has been covered by another grant already, you will not receive the money.

Washing Center Scholarship

The Washington Center Scholarship offers up to $6,000 to Arkansas students who are accepted at the school. This money should be used towards tuition. Aid is need based which means that the more money you need to attend the college, the more you will be given.

If you are a student in Arizona or a citizen of Arizona and want to attend a school or college; then you should consider applying for Arizona student aid. State student aid is designed to help students attend college for little to no other reason than that they are from a particular area. This type of aid is designed to increase the level of education in any particular area without forcing the students to seek their education elsewhere. Most Arizona Student Aid can be applied for through either the FAFSA or the Arizona Financial Aid website.

School Scholarships

There are many colleges and universities in Arizona that offer refunds, student aid and scholarships to needy students who wish to attend their schools. In most cases this type of scholarship will require that you hold a GPA of 2.7 or higher (in some cases as high as 4.0) and might require you to meet some other conditions such as studying a particular program like forensic psychology or etc.

State Grants

State grants cover a wide variety of student aid for a lot of different purposes. Examples include the EGSG which offers up to $2,000 for students who are graduating sooner than is average, the PEG grant which offers up to $2,000 per year for students trying to earn their post baccalaureate, the LEAP grant for up to $2,500 for students with substantial financial need, the PFAP which is a forgivable and loan of up to $2,000 for students attending post-secondary school in Arizona.

Plus Loans

Plus loans are a potentially forgivable loan and offer up to 100% of the tuition cost minus additional aid given. The loan features a fixed for life rate, easy payments and is actually given to the student’s parents rather than the student. Plus loans are available for undergraduate and graduate students though the conditions are somewhat different for each instance.

Private State Loans

Private state loans are the most common type of Arizona Student aid because they are very easy to get. Loans cover as much money as students need for school costs (school must certify) and do not pay back until you graduate! Features include a 2.5% APR rate and no origination fees!

Whether you plan on attending an online school or an on campus one, scholarship money is your best bet to being able to afford college. With so many students applying for scholarships though, your prospects are pretty low unless you find something that gives money specifically to someone with your skills, talents or racial demographic. Creativity Scholarships give money (usually $10,000) to the winner of a creativity contest which means that not only can you win a great deal of your tuition money but you can be proud of doing so! Here is a list of five of the best creativity Scholarships available!

Make It with Wool

The National Make it Yourself with Wool competition is actually a knitting competition. If you like to knit and know how to do it with wool than you can win up to $2,000 towards your college education! Finished products are judged on design, color; material and of course how well they hold up to the nature of the garment.

Stuck @ Prom Contest

The Duct Tape Brand Duct Tape Stuck at the Prom Contest offers a prize of up to $10,000 to any students who are brave enough to make a costume out of duct tape to wear to the prom. As embarrassing as this might sound, there have actually been some pretty creative ball gowns and costumes made for this so don’t be thinking you can get away with taping up your private bits and going as is. If you aren’t afraid of being laughed at (or wowed), like saving money on your prom outfit and are really creative, this could be the perfect creativity scholarship for you!

Seussville Scholarship

The Seussville Scholarship is exactly what you might think it is. A Dr. Seuss competition! Students should write an essay on the essay question (found on the website) and submit it before February 12 of the year they wish to receive scholarship money. The winner receives $5,000; however, the scholarship contest is only open to high school students aged 21 and younger.

Collegiate Inventors Award

The Collegiate Inventors Award offers up to $25,000 to one student who has created an exceptional new part of technology. This can be an electronic device, chemical, bioengineered plant or etc. The only requirements are that the student must have created it themselves, have not patented it more than a year ago and have not written about it more than a year ago, in general this translates that it must be a relatively new invention.

Ayn Rand Institute Essay Contest

The Ayn Rand Institute Essay Contest is hosted by the author of the books. Students are asked to submit essays before March of the year they wish to receive scholarship. In all there are five individual essay contests and over 600 prizes with the largest being $15,000 and the smallest being around $200, the institute gives away a grand total of $99,000 per year!

Holiday Scholarships For Students

It doesn’t matter if you are planning on starting studying your online college courses after the Holidays or continuing them, most of us have very little cash around the holidays and a holiday scholarship would be just the thing we need. A holiday scholarship is, in most cases, a scholarship that is applicable for only a short period of time or that consists of a single money donation towards the scholarship applicants.

Holiday Scholarship Concert

The Holiday Scholarship Concert is a project put forth by the CSMA in order to raise funds for college scholarships. Not all of these are given out during the holidays but the concert is an exhibition of the talents of the musicians who attend CSMA. Entrance is between $7 and $40 depending upon seats and all donations are of course appreciated.

State Student Aid in Alaska

No matter what you plan to study, state grants in Alaska are not only easy to get, but are also designed so that they give aid to the widest range of different minority students. Alaska state student aid is somewhat less than that in higher populated areas; however, the state still supports its students. Students who wish to receive Alaskan State Aid should apply for an FAFSA and an ASAP

Minority Grants

Minority grants are probably one of the easiest types of grants to earn. This type of grant is available in Alaska for American Indian, Alaskan Native, Asian and scholarships for African Americans. Minority grants in Alaska are usually under $4,000 per year and do require that the student be financially needy.

State Loans

State loans are given out very easily by the Alaskan government and are usually designed with a very low interest and equity rate. This means that you can pay the state government back without worrying about high interest rates building up. Some types of aid include Plus loans for parents which allow parents to borrow money for their child’s education, Plus for students which allows students to borrow money, Stafford Loans which will pay up to the full amount of the tuition,

Alaska Advantage Education Grant

The Alaska Advantage Education Grant is a state grant that offers between $200 and $2,000 per year in tuition reimbursement for any financially needy students

Gear Up State Grant

For any Alaskan citizens who were involved in the Gear Up program in middle-school during their 7th and 8th grades, the gear up grant is available to help cover the cost of college. This grant requires that students be under 22 years of age at the time of study and will grant up to $7,000 per year for full time study and up to $3,500 per year for half time study.

Teacher State Aid

In Alaska, student state aid for students wishing to become teachers is mostly limited to loans. However, these loans will usually cover up to the full cost of tuition, minus any other financial aid and have very relaxed repayment. Common terms include no in school interest and repayment rate of 7.6%.

School Scholarships

School scholarships are probably the rarest of all state grants and student aid in Alaska because most of the funding does not actually come from the government. Programs such as the Juno Chamber of Commerce Scholarship rely on private, state and school funds to give need based loans and grants to students.
